High Commission on HUMAN RIGHTS Requested stop Punishment Whip in Maldives

Maldives: UN High Commissioner for human rights, Navi Pillay meets with the President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed and other high officials in the country, Thursday (24/11). The meeting was to talk about a solution to stop the punishment whip in Maldives.Navi Pillay says sentence of whipping, it is just the means to torture. Actions it is considered to have no place in a framework of legal democratic State. His opinion, a much needed public debate related to the law of the whip.UN officials said that the Government and justice of the Maldives issued a moratorium on the punishments before a permanent ban could whip made of a majority of countries with a population of about 300,000 people are Muslims.Pillay also seek protection for the rights of women and an end to the exploitation of migrant workers, especially in Bangladesh. This is the first visit of a UNITED NATIONS High Commissioner for HUMAN RIGHTS in the countries of South Asia.
